Well, I thought that maybe Beauty and the Beast could use a little company.
Maybe some know, but Disney Theatrical is going to release The Little Mermaid on Broadway hopefully by 2007 (also, hopefully, I will be a part of the cast!).
For you B-way fans, preliminary cast members were Kerry Butler, Gavin Creel (Thoroughly Modern Milly-Jimmy) and Megan Mullaly (Karen from Will and Grace) as Ursula.
So, does anyone have any thoughts on how they're going to get Ariel to swim on stage?

When I saw Disney On Ice, they flew her with wires for the big transformation scene. They would want to avoid letting the audience see hte mechanics of the "floating", but I would want to know how to handle the open with Ariel and Glut in the belly of the ship.

That's the thing that's been halting production is trying to find a way to make her swim. But, the way I see it, it's Disney; they've got all the money in the world. They could probably put Ariel on the moon if they wanted. They'll find a way to put her on stage!

Well, not if you've seen their latest annual report.
The film division continues to lose money, and, although they have acquired (or are about to) Pixar to help in that department, overall, things are down.
Mounting a Broadway musical is expensive, even for someone with deep pocktes as Disney. If some of the creative minds that helped "Lion King" are focused on Ariel, they could have a marvelous production.
